Annotation Current trends in the world economy related to globalization are identified. Globalization strengthens the unity of the world, promotes innovation, values of economic freedom, opens up great opportunities for the progressive development of nation-states, but makes strict demands on the economic, social and cultural level of countries that are at different stages of development and have different opportunities for self-realization. . Accordingly, today the policy of protectionism should be the basis of foreign economic relations of the state with a simultaneous focus on the active participation of the country in the international market, the comprehensive development of cooperation with various actors in world economic processes.
The article considers the main priorities of customs policy in the context of globalization, provides a description of protectionism and free trade. Particular attention is paid to current changes in priorities for the use of protectionist policies in the regulation of foreign economic relations. The main tools, methods and measures of protectionist policy, which are becoming widespread in modern realities, are revealed. It is determined that in Ukraine traditional instruments of protectionist policy are mainly used, although developed countries actively use measures of covert protectionism. In the context of globalization, this practice helps to protect national producers without formally violating the rules of international trade, which is very important for Ukraine. It is proved that an effective state policy of protectionism should adapt the national economy to the system of global economic relations, protect domestic markets by creating conditions for fair competition, promoting the interests of domestic producers in international markets and ensuring national security. The necessity of continuing to use the tools of protectionism for the national economy while creating conditions for fair competition in the domestic market is substantiated.
